URGENT: Feedback Survey For Royal York / Mimico Creek Bridge Mural

Arts Etobicoke is organizing to enhance the Royal York Road Bridge over Mimico Creek, south of Thompson Ave, with a mural.

Please visit the project page and fill this survey to share your views and provide feedback. Arts Etobicoke is seeking input from community members to ensure that the mural accurately represents our communities’ unique characters and preferences. This survey is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to our local cultural landscape!

Survey closes this Sunday May 5!

Snow-Building Contest Winners!

Now that winter is finally over, we are excited to announce the winners of this season’s annual snow-building contest!

As we all know, conditions were not ideal for snow-building this year, and so our congratulations are all the heartier for the builders who managed to get by with sub-par building materials!

1st place: “Mermaid”, 39 Cliveden Ave
2nd place: “Cpt Hook and Tick Tock The Crocodile”, 139 Thompson
3rd place: “Titanic”, 42 Cliveden

Winter Mixer – Thank you!

A massive thank you to The Bull for hosting and sponsoring our Winter Community Mixer, and to Grillies for donating taco vouchers! We had a great time, with over 30 attendees who defied the wet winter weather and came out to meet new neighbours, and to foster the social ties that help make our neighbourhood such a great place to live!

Continuing this new tradition, we are planning our next mixer to coincide with the 2024 TOCA Annual General Meeting: TOCA’s first in-person AGM in five years! The date will be in early November.

NEW -Thompson Orchard History Corner

DID YOU KNOW?

The residential neighbourhood of Thompson Orchard was first developed in the late 1930s, as you can see in the above before (1939) / after (2022) aerial photography visualizer, built by Jeff Allen at the School Of Cities.

ADOOPEKOG: WHERE THE ALDERS GROW

As with the rest of Etobicoke (named after “Adoopekog” creek, or “where the alders grow”), and all the lands of The Toronto Purchase, the land we call home is the traditional territory of the Anishinaabeg, the Haudenosaunee, the Huron-Wendat, and the Mississaugas of the Credit.
