Board Members Needed

For more than 30 years, TOCA has brought neighbours together. From the Halloween Parade and the Spring Creek Clean-Up to community advocacy and sharing local updates, everything we do is powered by resident volunteers.

Like any healthy organization, we depend on fresh voices. In recent years, however, very few new volunteers have stepped forward. With the upcoming departure of some key board members, TOCA is now at a critical point:

Without new board members, TOCA cannot operate in the coming year.

If you have ever enjoyed a neighbourhood event, supported local improvements, or want to keep community connected, now is the time to get involved. Even a small amount of your time can make a big difference.

To learn more, please email thompsonorchard@gmail.com or attend our upcoming AGM on Thursday November 13, at 8:00pm, via Zoom. (Link here)

Halloween Parade Update

Sadly, as was warned in our spring e-newsletters, due to a lack of volunteer interest we will not be able to hold our Halloween Parade and Party this year. For the last five years, the parade, and its organization, have depended on the generous contribution of community volunteers, as well as an event committee within the board of directors.

If you would like to see events in our community such as the Halloween Parade, please consider attending our AGM and joining the board, so that our neighbourhood can continue to enjoy future events that bring us together as a community.

In the meantime, the Kingsway BIA is hosting Pumpkinfest; see below for more details on this family-friendly event.

 Traffic Calming: Speed Humps Incoming

Earlier this year, the Etobicoke-York Community Council voted to implement traffic calming measures in the Sunnylea-Kingsway area that were recommended by the city’s department of Transportation Services, following a traffic study undertaken in 2023 and 2024. These measures include the installation of speed humps in our neighbourhood, specifically:

  • Meadowvale Drive.: 16m west of Royal York Road
  • Meadowvale Drive: 20m east of Cliveden Avenue
  • Meadowvale Drive: 15m west of Cliveden Avenue
  • Meadowvale Drive: 15m east of Brentwood Road South
  • Meadowvale Drive: 20m west of Brentwood Road South
  • Meadowvale Drive: 15m west of Thompson Avenue
  • Thompson Avenue: 50m south of Bloor Street West
  • Thompson Avenue: 30m south of Meadowvale Drive

Additional speed humps will also be installed nearby, on Montgomery Rd., Edgemore Dr., Ashton Manor, Elsfield Rd., Fieldway Rd., Grenview Blvd S., and Humbervale Blvd.

The timeline for these installations is unknown.

Engagement Survey Update

Thank you to all of you who filled out our resident engagement survey. It is important for us to gain understanding on our residents’ priorities, to help inform TOCA’s direction in the future.

According to responses so far, the top four priorities for residents are:

  • Maintaining the newsletter – 68%
  • Organizing family-friendly events – 65%
  • Continuing the Spring Creek Clean-up – 65%
  • Advocating on local development – 51%

In order to carry on with the above initiatives, we will need volunteers to join the board of directors, and its communications, events, and development committees. Please attend our upcoming AGM, or email us at thompsonorchard@gmail.com if interested.

The survey remains open: please visit the survey to share your views!
